Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAYTON, OH - Seth Mejias-Brean and Joe Hudson each drove in three runs as the Dayton Dragons (3-3, 31-44) beat the Lansing Lugnuts (1-5, 33-42) 8-1 to take the series at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday night.
With the game deadlocked, 1-1, Dayton exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third inning against Lansing starter Taylor Cole (Loss, 4-6).
Mejias-Brean's RBI single with two on and two out gave Dayton a 2-1 lead. Jeff Gelalich followed with an RBI single of his own before Hudson lined a two-run single to right field, giving Dayton a 5-1 advantage before the scoring was capped on an error by Cole, scoring Daniel Pigott, who was one of three Dragons hit by a pitch in the inning.
Cole was chased from the game after the Dragons batted around in the third. In total, Cole lasted 2.2 innings, allowing all six runs - five of them earned - on six hits. He struck out a pair and issued one walk in the loss.
Mejias-Brean added a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to add some insurance for Dayton, finishing 2-for-5 at the plate. Hudson, 2-for-4 in the game, also delivered an RBI single in the second frame, accounting for the first run of the game for the Dragons.
On the other side, Dayton starter Nick Travieso (Win, 2-2) recovered nicely after giving up a first-inning run to the Lugnuts. The 19-year old tossed five innings, allowing the lone run on three total hits. Travieso issued three walks and struck out two Lugnuts.
In the loss, Jason Leblebijian drove in Lansing's first and only run with a single to right field against Travieso. Lansing mustered only four hits, two of which came in the run-scoring first inning.
Lansing now heads home for a six-game homestand, starting with three games against the Fort Wayne TinCaps. The series opens up Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Cooley Law School Stadium with Ben White (4-4, 3.84) taking the mound for Lansing against Fort Wayne's right-hander Walker Weickel (2-3, 4.55).
