
Captains Preview Homestand

Lake County Captains News Release
The Captains will begin an eight-game home stand on Wednesday as the Great Lakes Loons (Dodgers), Fort Wayne Tincaps (Padres) and Lansing Lunguts (Blue Jays) all return to Classic Park to begin the home portion of the second half of the season.
This release will preview this week's games and a second release sent out later in the week will preview the games scheduled for Monday, July 1 through Wednesday, July 3.
The home stand begins tomorrow when the Captains will offer a special buy two, get two special on hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, French fries, onion rings, nachos and popcorn. This new food promotion is offered during every Wednesday night game throughout the season. Game time is 7 PM.
Thursday is a special 11 AM start with several local summer camps in attendance.
Friday is a 7 PM start and the game will be followed by a Fireworks Friday Night, presented by Universal Windows Direct. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Skipper Mascot Wall Decal presented by Bod Shotz by Bruce and Bruce Custom Graphics.
The Captains Friday Night Concert Series continues with Run Avril Run, who has been packing dance floors since 1999. They will perform on stage adjacent to Castaways Bar, which will remain open throughout the show.
Saturday is a 7 PM start time and the game will be followed by a Saturday Night Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Monreal Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
During the game on Saturday, which is the first day of the Tour de France, the Captains will present Lancestrong Night. While the evening will highlight the lighter side of the scandal related to Livestrong's former spokesman, the Captains will donate $1 for every Livestrong bracelet worn by fans to the game to the Livestrong Organization, which continues to fight cancer and perform amazing work on behalf of cancer research.
Fans who wear their Livestrong bracelet will be take part in several in-game promotions and a special post-game promotion on the field.
The evening will also be dedicated to all things related to the cycling culture as the Captains encourage fans to ride their two-wheelers to the game and take part in a pre-game Tour de Classic around the warning track on the field. Fans will enjoy an in-game Spandex fashion show and a special station will be set-up on the concourse where fans will be able to write postcards and use United States Postal Service stamps to mail the cards to friends and family.
Sunday is a 1:30 PM start and is a Family Fun Sunday, presented by the Lake County YMCA, featuring a pre-game player autograph session, concourse entertainment and activities, the Kids' Zone area and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game. All kids in attendance will receive a Captains activities book and crayons, presented by the YMCA and Lake County Job and Family Services.
The first 1,000 kids 12 and under in attendance will receive a soft-side lunch box courtesy of VisitPittsburgh.com.
It is also Pro Football Hall of Fame Day and Hall of Fame running back Leroy Kelly will be in attendance to meet fans and sign autographs. Kelly, a 1994 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was an eighth-round pick of Cleveland in the 1964 draft after a four-year collegiate career at Morgan State. Kelly played in Cleveland for 10 years and rushed for 7,274 yards, which ranked among the top 20 all-time rushers until midway through 1993 season. He added 2,281 yards on 190 pass receptions and was also used as a punt and kickoff return specialist. His combined net yards total of 12,330 on rushes, receptions and returns ranks him among the best ever in professional football.

Friday is the Captains' annual "Salute to Cleveland Sports History Night". The inaugural event in 2009 was named ESPN the Magazine's "Minor League Promotion of the Year". The night will include Cleveland Sports history-themed on-field promotions and appearances and autograph sessions by Cleveland sports legends.
This year's guests scheduled to appear include former Browns stars Bob Golic and Hanford Dixon; Matt Wilhelm, a member of the 2002 Ohio State National Championship team and 2010 Super Bowl winning Green Bay Packers; Super Bowl XVIII Hero and Cleveland native Jack Squirek; the NFL's 1991 Mr. Irrelevant and John Carroll product Larry Wanke; Professional Bass Fisherman Frank Scalish and several members of the Legends Football League's Cleveland Crush, a women's professional football league. Indians Drummer John Adams will also be manning the bleachers.
In addition, there will be two book signings related to Cleveland sports history during the game as Scott Longert, author of the book "The Best They Could Be, How the Cleveland Indians Became the Kings of Baseball, 1916-1920" will be in attendance along with co-authors Ken Krsolovic and Bryan Fritz, who wrote the book "League Park, Historic Home of Cleveland Baseball, 1891-1946."
The Captains will wear Cleveland Indians early 70's themed throwback jerseys that night and fans will have the opportunity to bid on the jerseys and take them off the player's backs during a post-game on-field presentation. All jersey auction proceeds benefit Captains Charities.
The Captains are excited to host Pro Football Hall of Famer Leroy Kelly on Sunday, June 30 at Classic Park. Special, limited VIP Fan Packages are available for the appearance featuring an all-you-can-eat buffet, 8" by 10" Kelly photo, in-game reception with Kelly on Classic Park's PNC Party Suite Level and the opportunity to take a professional photo with Kelly!

The Captains wrap up the eight-game homestand on July 3 with a special, Patriotic Fireworks Extravaganza presented by Universal Windows Direct. The team takes on the Lansing Lugnuts during the Wednesday game, which also features Bike Night. It is a Buy 2, Get 2 Free Wednesday. Select concessions are buy two, get two free. Game time is 7 PM with gates opening at 6 PM.
The Captains will donate 100% of ticket proceeds to The Cleveland Courage Fund of the Cleveland Foundation for tickets purchased using the on-line promo code COURAGE for the Sunday, June 30 game.

The Cleveland Courage Fund of the Cleveland Foundation was established by Cleveland council members Brian Cummins, Matt Zone, and Dona Brady after the discovery of three local women who were held captive in a Cleveland home for a decade. The Fund, so named because of the courage shown by these remarkable women, will directly benefit Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight, and Amanda Berry and her daughter. 100% of the monies raised by the Fund will benefit the survivors.

Enrollment is open for the First Annual MVP Sportsmanship Program, which rewards young athletes for showing great sportsmanship. Athletes can be nominated for their exceptional sportsmanship throughout the calendar year by their coaches or athletic directors to earn this great award.
This program provides coaches and athletic directors with the opportunity to recognize and reward students who have done something exceptional during the course of the year. Selected honorees are invited to participate in a pre-game ceremony, during which they will be recognized on the field prior to a designated Captains game. The program also includes a complimentary ticket for the MVP Sportsman.
