October 21, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, have announced that the LAUREN'S HOPE FOUNDATION will benefit from several fundraising efforts during the festivities at the home opener this Friday night at the BI-LO Center (7:05pm Showtime vs the Charlotte Checkers). The foundation provides much needed funds for research for the cure of Sanfilippo Syndrome. Complete information on LHF can be viewed at www.laurenshope.org.

Sanfilippo Syndrome is a very rare genetic disorder. A Sanfilippo child receives a recessive gene from their mother and father. Approximately 1 child in 75,000 is born with Sanfilippo Syndrome. There may be only a few hundred children in the US at any given time afflicted with this disorder. A child with Sanfilippo Syndrome is born lacking a very important enzyme that the majority of the world has without even knowing it. The enzyme is used to break down certain chemicals in the body. If these chemicals are not broken down and disposed of, they will build up in the body causing serious damage. Seven-year-old Laurens suffers from this fatal disease.

Center Ice Charities will assist Lauren's Hope foundation in several ways on Friday night, and will also promote further activities for the foundation. The following is a list of ways that fans can support fundraising efforts for LHF:

Ø Fifty cents (.50) from all tickets from walk-up sales on gameday will be donated Ø Proceeds from the sale of 2-Liter Pepsi or Diet Pepsi products just outside the BI-LO Center on gameday will be donated in Pepsi's name Ø LHF will have a table on the concourse (at Section 104) to provide extensive material on Sanfilippo Syndrome Ø Lauren McCraw will be the honoree for the C. Dan Joyner "Follow the Leader" ceremonial puck drop prior to the start of the game Ø The Grrrowl will have a team in the LHF Golf Tournament at the Thornblade Country Club on Monday, October 25th. Grrrowl players will assist with registration and hospitality at the golf tournament.

The Grrrowl will open the 2004-05 schedule with a home game on Friday, October 22, 2004 (opening weekend presented by Verizon Wireless) against the Charlotte Checkers. Season tickets (starting at $238), mini-plans and flex packs are available now by contacting the Grrrowl office. Please call 467-4777 for additional ticket information. All 72 games will be broadcast through TEAMLINE on www.grrrowl.com.
