Peoria, Ill. (October 21, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that fourth-year left wing Ken Goetz, rookie center Jon Howse, former Rivermen defenseman Kevin Tucker, rookie right wing Greg Goodnough and rookie goaltender Olivier Bercial have been released with opening night â Friday, October 22 vs. Dayton Bombers â one day away.
Goetz â a 5-foot-10, 185-pound left wing â completed his third professional season with the Rivermen in 2003-2004 by tallying one assist â his first professional postseason point â in five playoff games. The 26-year-old native of Newtown, Pa., racked up 201 penalty minutes (PIM) in 39 games between three teams during the regular season, ranking him first on the Rivermen. He picked up three points (1g, 2a) and 96 PIM (including 10 majors) in 13 games with Peoria.
Howse â a 6-foot-2, 185-pound center from Corner Brook, Newfoundland â ranked second on the Peterborough Petes of the Major Junior "A" Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with 140 PIM last year, while posting 35 points (10g, 25a) in 67 games. Over five seasons with the Petes, the 21-year-old had 139 points (55g, 84a) in 307 games; he is the All-time Regular Season Games Played Leader in Petes history.
Tucker â a 6-foot-6, 225 native of Mississauga, Ontario â did not play professional hockey last season to allow himself time to finish his college degree. The 28-year-old backliner tallied nine points (2g, 7a) and 73 penalty minutes (PIM) in 72 games with the Rivermen over three seasons (2000-2003). Goodnough â a 5-foot-10, 210-pound native of Mansfield, New York â registered single-season career bests last season in goals (17), assists (20) and points (37) in 61 games with the Major Junior "A" Ottawa 67's (OHL).
Bercial â a 5-foot-10, 140-pound native of Nantes, France â did not play professionally last season but attended training camp with the Amarillo Gorillas of the Central Hockey League (CHL).
The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL â America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. Peoria opens its ninth season in the 28-team league on Friday, October 22, 2004, when they host the archrival Dayton Bombers at Carver Arena.
