Grrrowl prepare for opening weekend
October 19, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Grrrowl finalized their roster today, and are now preparing for the opening weekend of the 18th season of ECHL hockey. The Grrrowl will play in Pensacola, Fla., Friday night, then travel back to the BI-LO Center for their home opener - a 7:05 p.m. game against the Charlotte Checkers, this Saturday night.
All Grrrowl games this season will be available for online viewing on the B2 Networks. Every fan with a computer, Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 or higher, and a high-speed internet connection (DSL, T1 or Cable) can watch the games during the upcoming season. Each game costs $6 and can be accessed through the "Watch the Game" icon on the home page of www.grrrowl.com. Fans can listen to the games via the internet for no charge.
Greenville's game in Pensacola against the Ice Pilots begins at 8:05 p.m. (EST), with the B2 Broadcast beginning at 7:50 p.m.
Fans returning to the BI-LO Center will notice some changes from last season, most notably the look of Greenville's mascot, Grrruff. Unveiled last week during "Fall for Greenville," the new-look Grrruff will re-introduce himself to the BI-LO Center faithful Saturday night. Grrrowl fans will also notice a new $7 Kids Ticket, good for any open seat in the arena, to be used by Grrrowl fans age 2-12.
On the ice, Greenville is putting out a lineup which includes 11 returning players, four veterans, nine rookies, and six players with NHL or AHL contracts.
The Grrrowl recently added goalie MIKE BRODEUR from the Norfolk Admirals, while MARIS ZIEDINS was traded to Stockton and DEREK PARKER was suspended.
Brodeur returns to the Greenville, where he played 35 games last season and went 19-15-1. He led all Grrrowl goalies in games played (35), wins (19), shootout wins (6), shootout percentage (.914), and shutouts (2). His .914 shootout percentage was best in the ECHL, and his six shootout wins was tied for the most in the league.
Ziedins goes to one of the newest ECHL teams, the Stockton Thunder, for a player to be named later. The Riga, Latvia native spent time with Greenville and Toledo last season, while also participating in the World Cup for the Latvian National Team.
Earlier in the week, the Grrrowl released defenseman MATT SUDERMAN and goalie MATT MIGLIACCIO.
