Lynx make final cuts as opening night approaches
October 19, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx have pared down their roster to a final 21 players in preparation for the start of the 2005-06 ECHL season this Friday night.
After receiving goaltender Seamus Kotyk from the Houston Aeros earlier today, the team released goaltender Cam Ellsworth. Ellsworth allowed three goals in two periods of pre-season play against the Greenville Grrrowl in his only game action. Jason Wolfe will team with Kotyk to begin the season in goal.
On defense the Lynx will start the year with team veterans Martin Lapointe, Treavor Peterson, and Phil Cole. New to the blue line are rookies Ken Scuderi and Eric Lundberg, while Shaun Fisher and Steve LeCuyer round out the seven-strong corps.
In the forward ranks, Jimmy Callahan was released by the team after Tuesday's game against Columbia, leaving the Lynx with 12 forwards: Joe Periera, Sam Ftorek, Jake Riddle, Jamie Johnson, Paul Kelly, Ryan Bennett, Nicolas Corbeil, Doug Wright, Ryan Lang, Colt King, Brian Passmore, and Dan Sullivan.
"There was some good competition in camp this year," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Bob Ferguson. "In some cases it went right down to the wire for a spot."
The Lynx kick off the regular season on Friday night at 7:05 pm against the South Carolina Stingrays!
