Kalamazoo Growlers News Release

Madison, Wisc.- After losing 8-1 on Wednesday night the Kalamazoo Growlers looked to get out to a fast start in the series finale against the Mallards in Madison,WI on Thursday night. They did in strong fashion by loading the bases and scoring twice on an RBI single off the bat of Bryce Harman (East Carolina) and a bases loaded walk RBI from Jesse Puscheck (Canasius College). With a quick 2-0 lead the Growlers also benefitted from a solo home run from Jared Kujawa (Western Michigan) in the second inning and had their biggest ead of the evening at 3-0.

However the Mallards eventually got to Growlers starter Nick Wernke (West Virginia) and chased him out of the ballgame with a four run fourth inning. The Mallards tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning and good relief pitching held the potent Growlers offense in check the rest of the way and gave the Mallards a 6-3 win and a sweepof the series against Kalamazoo who suffered their third straight loss, and second straight to start the second half of the seson.

The Growlers outhit Madison 9-8, with Kujawa and Nick Yarnall (East Carolina) pacing the offense with two hits each. Wernke took the loss for Kalamazoo and remains winless this year with an 0-4 mark. Kalamazoo returns home on Friday night to begin a four game home stand at Homer Stryker Stadium in Kalamazoo, MI.
