
Mallards Set to Quiet Growlers Tonight at the "Duck Pond"

Madison, WI - July 3, 2014. The Madison Mallards (1-0, 19-15) look to sweep the Kalamazoo Growlers (0-1, 13-23) tonight at the "Duck Pond" in game two of their two game series after winning handily last night by a score of 8-1. First pitch this evening is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
Mallards starter Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State) is scheduled go against Growlers hurler Nick Wernke (West Virginia) in a righty showdown.
Buffett has appeared twice for the Mallards this year and carries a 3.85 ERA in seven innings pitched. His first and only start, Buffett went 5.2 innings against the Green Bay Bullfrogs, striking out six while giving up three runs on eight hits and walking none.
Wernke, a 6'4", 200-pound native of Oswego, Illinois is 0-3 on the year and holds a 5.55 ERA in six starts. He pitched against the Wisconsin Woodchucks last Friday and gave up two runs on three hits, walking four while striking out nine in five innings of work.
Last night, Kirby Snead (Florida) helped the Mallards begin the second half of their Northwoods League season strong, tossing six innings and giving up one run on two hits while striking out five to receive his second win of the year.
Snead had a perfect game through 4.1 innings and retired the first 13 batters he faced.
The Mallards were led offensively by newcomers Connor Marabell (Jacksonville) and Trace Tam Sing (Washington State).
The right fielder Marabell was 3-for-4 with three RBI and added two runs in his first game with the club. Shortstop Tam Sing homered in the fifth to put the Mallards up 4-1 and finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
The Mallards continue their four day home stand at the "Duck Pond" tomorrow in a doubleheader against the Battle Creek Bombers (1-0, 17-19). Game one begins at 12:30 pm, and game two will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Game one is a re-start of the postponed game from June 19th and is a full nine innings, while game two will go seven innings.
Tomorrow is Zimbrick Honda Military Appreciation Night with a Uncle Sam Maynard Bobblehead Giveaway. Bobbleheads will be given away at 11:30 am when gates open for game one of the doubleheader. There is also a Bucky Book giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the gates.
