Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors dominated the Thunder Bay Border Cats by a score of 8-1 in the second match of the 2 game series at the Shipyard.
Anchor's Third Baseman, Kris Goodman, would deliver on a two run slammer to deep left center field. Jake Bergren would come in on that homer after a single, giving the Anchors a 2-0 lead heading into the 2nd inning.
Jason Zgardowski, Alexandria's starting pitcher, would then go on to throw 5 shutout innings in what may have been his best start of the season. Ryan Froom would enter in relief in the 6th inning with a score of 2-0, leaving Zgardowski (0-5) looking for his first win of the season.
Thunder Bay's starter Zack Speer would recover after surrendering 2 in the first, he would also go scoreless through his next four innings. In relief of Speer would be Michael Daley in the 6th inning, who gave up a big solo home run to Roman Collins as the Anchors would get a much needed insurance run.
The Blue Anchors would then explode in the next inning starting with an RBI single by Dalton Leuschke, knocking in Sanchez who advanced to third on a stolen base and throwing error by catcher Nick Studer. After that, the bases would be loaded up for Kris Goodman as he would walk in run number 5. Right after that, Roman Collins would knock in 2 on a single and then Nehwon Norkeh would bring in Goodman for run number 8.
With an 8-0 lead, the Anchors would go to the newly arrived Ryan Hamilton who pitched a shutout 8th inning. It should also be mentioned that Zach Muckenhirn kept the shutout alive with a scoreless inning pitched in the 7th.
However, Alexandria would unfortunately lose the shutout in the 9th inning as Hamilton would stay in the game and give up an RBI double to the Border Cats' Sal Taormina. That said, Alexandria took care of business in what will go as their most dominant home win of the season as the Anchors would go on to win 8-1.
Notes: The Blue Anchors next game will be Tuesday, July 3rd, at 6:35PM as they will take on the Eau Claire Express and can be seen live at www.youtube.com/user/North woodsLeague.com.
