
Anchors drop season finale to Honkers

Alexandria, Minn. - The Blue Anchors dropped the regular season finale at Knute Nelson Memorial Park to the Rochester Honkers 7-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Anchors finished the second half at 18-19 and 30-42 on the season.
The Honkers got on the board in the first inning against Graylon Brown. Ryan Webberley hit a one-out double and after moving to third, he was brought home on a base hit from Matt Fiedler putting them ahead 1-0.
Drew Fearing led off the bottom of the second with a double and two outs later, Ben Allen lined a ball up the middle scoring Fearing and tying the game at one.
Rochester took the lead again in the fourth. With Adam Walton, who doubled, on third base, William Paschal singled him home to making the score 2-1 Honkers.
In the Anchors' half of the fourth, Fearing led off with a single and would come in to score on three wild pitches and knot the game at two.
Austin Cornish came in for the fifth inning and with two runners on, Fiedler lifted a long fly ball to centerfield to for a three-run shot putting the Honkers ahead 5-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ricky Sanchez singled to start the inning. He would steal second base and after moving to third on a groundout, he would come in on a wild pitch to cut the deficit down to two, 5-3.
Rochester added some insurance runs in the seventh against Mitch Larson. He walked Slade Heggen with two outs and Scott Schreiber hit a homer making the score 7-3.
The Honkers' catcher Alex Summers came in to pitch the eighth. Sanchez drew a walk and went to second on a fly out. Sanchez went to third on a wild pitch and then Fearing drew a walk putting runners on the corners for Kyle Richardson who brought home Sanchez making it 7-4.
Brown got a no decision in his final appearance as a Blue Anchor. He pitched the first four innings allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Cornish (0-2) got the loss pitching one inning giving up three runs on a pair of hits and one walk while punching out two hitters. George Faue threw a scoreless sixth allowing just one walk with one strikeout. Larson's afternoon was done after one inning giving up two runs on two hits and a walk. Ramos pitched a shutout eighth allowing one baserunner. Matt Hopfner struck out the side in the ninth walking a hitter.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Drew Fearing (3B) - The Alexandria native finished the season on a high-note by finishing the final game of the season 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk while scoring a run.
