Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, Wis. - The Madison Mallards are proud to announce that catcher Jean Ramirez (Illinois State), outfielders Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary's College) Logan Regnier (Central Michigan) and late-inning reliever Mike Kaelin (Buffalo) have been selected to the Northwoods League's 2015 Postseason All-Star Team.

The quartet of Madison contributors received their prestigious honor on Sunday, when the league also announced that Loggers shortstop Mason McCoy (Illinois Central College) was named the league's most valuable player and Bombers closer Alex Hermeling (Louisiana-Monroe) was tabbed as the league's pitcher of the year.

Ramirez, who opened the season on a temporary contract with the Mallards, has staked his claim among the best catchers in the Northwoods League this summer, posting a .307 batting average with seven home runs and 37 runs batted in across 58 games. Defensively, he has thrown out eight of 44 would-be base stealers.

Gonsolin, who this spring was nominated for the John Olerud Award for the best two-way player in Division I college baseball, enters Sunday as the only player in the league with double-digit marks in home runs (11) and stolen bases (16). His 45 runs batted in, 48 runs scored and .901 on-base plus slugging percentage are team-best marks.

Regnier, who contributed to Madison's lineup for the first time last summer, returned to the Mallards in 2015 to post the league's fourth-highest batting average (.344) among qualified hitters while also stealing nine bases in 52 games. His 72 hits finished second-most of any Mallards hitter this summer, while his 35 runs scored ranked third-most.

Kaelin, who struck out 58 batters with 12 walks in 43.1 innings in collegiate play this past spring, has become one of the best late-inning arms of any pitcher in the league this summer. As a full-time reliever, Kaelin has posted a 2.25 ERA and struck out a team-high 50 batters, issued just four walks and held opponents to a .198 average over 32 innings.
