Kenosha Kingfish News Release
Kenosha, Wis. - The Kenosha Kingfish welcomed the St. Cloud Rox to historic Simmons Field and started the second half of the season off with a win. The Kingfish silenced the St. Cloud Rox and won 14-3.
Starting pitcher Rico Garcia did his job perfectly tonight. He retired 10 straight before giving up his first and only hit in the sixth. Garcia struck out three carried a no-hitter through five complete. The Rox had a hard time against Paul Schuster and Conner Kelley as well, and were only able to get seven hits on the night. Their three runs came late in the game in the eighth and ninth.
The Kingfish were able to take advantage of Rox starting pitcher Tim Faix from the get go. He walked two players in the first and Chris Godinez hit a sacrifice fly to drive Taylor Douglas in for the first run. The Kingfish came up big once again in the third with back to back two-out homers. The first came off the bat of Pat Porter, who crushed one to right center. Porter remains in the Northwoods League lead with 38 RBI. Two pitches later, Alex Dunlap hit another to left field, his first of the season, to put the Kingfish up 4-0.
Later in the fifth King Elvis' crew added three more with a Buddy Reed two RBI double. Catcher CJ Saylor also drove in a run for the lead of 7-0. The Kingfish made sure to end on a high note and collected five more in the eighth to give them a season high of 14 runs.
Tomorrow is the second game of the series and will feature post-game fireworks presented by Camosy Construction. The Kingfish are on the road for July 4th and return on July 6th for a double header against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. For more information regarding the doubleheader, visit kingfishbaseball.com.
