Grizzlies Tie Late, Win in Boise Shootout
January 15, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Boise, Idaho - The Utah Grizzlies (16-15-4-2) defeated the Idaho Steelheads (23-10-1-3) 2-1 in a shootout Wednesday night at CenturyLink Arena as they tied the game at 1 with 1:15 left in regulation and went on to collect the two standings points.
"It's huge", said Michael Pelech on the Grizzlies taking 3 of 4 standings points over the last two nights in Boise. "They're in first place right now and they have a really good hockey team, so three of the four points on the road is a big accomplishment for us."
The Grizzlies finally broke through on their 29th shot of the game as Pelech hammered in a rebound on a Connor Hardowa blast as the Grizzlies scrambled late. The score by Pelech was his team leading 18th goal of the year.
"Guys were working hard down low there and caused a turnover to Hardowa, he ripped one on net and I just banged it in," said Pelech.
Danick Paquette was the only player from either side who scored in the shootout as Ryan Faragher stopped all five Idaho shots. Paquette scored in the fourth round and Idaho missed on the ensuing attempt to end the game.
Faragher improved to 8-6-2-0 on the season by stopping 24 of 25 through overtime, including several huge saves to keep the contest 1-0 and allow the Grizzlies a chance to rally.
Idaho took a 1-0 lead 6:30 into the first period and held that lead for 52 minutes and 15 seconds before the Grizzlies came back to tie.
The Grizzlies are next in action Friday and Saturday in Bakersfield at 8 p.m.
