Indy Fuel News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - In the first of three head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel earned a standings point in an overtime defeat at the hands of the Greenville Road Warriors on Thursday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville South Carolina by a final score of 3-2. With the overtime loss, the Fuel improved to 7-21-4-3 overall this season and with 21 points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
The Fuel took control early on Thursday as Nick Bruneteau wired home his third goal of the season, a power-play score assisted by Kyle Stroh and Pete Massar, at 6:02 of the opening stanza to make it 1-0 Fuel. In the second, Indy notched a second power-play goal as Vincent Arseneau found the back of the net in his first game in a Fuel uniform. The Iles-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec native's second of the season, a power-play tally, was assisted by Justin Holl and Bruneteau and made it 2-0 Fuel.
Greenville eventually tied the game at two following back-to-back scores that came within less than one minute of one another, at 14:31 from Emerson Clark and 15:27 from Trevor Parkes respectively, before a scoreless third period gave way to overtime. In the extra session, Greenville forward Chris McCarthy notched an extra-man game winner just 25 seconds into the frame to claim the Road Warriors a 3-2 win.
Fuel goaltender Shane Owen was rock-solid in defeat, delivering a 28 save performance while Greenville backstop Jeff Malcolm, a 2015 CCM/ECHL All-Star, made 28 saves to claim victory for the Road Warriors.
