Grizzlies Take Triple Overtime Thriller In Fresno

Fresno, California - Justin Bourne scored 6:23 into triple overtime as the Utah Grizzlies defeated the Fresno Falcons 4-3 Monday night at Save Mart Center to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven quarterfinal playoff series. Utah battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the game and a 3-1 third period score. The game was the sixth-longest in ECHL history and lasted four hours and thirty-five minutes.

The Grizzlies battled back on the power-play with Rob Sirianni putting Utah on the scoreboard in the final minute of the second period and 3-1 was the score at the second intermission.

In the third, Andrew MacDonald and Jeff Dwyer blasted power-play goals within 48 seconds of each other as the Grizzlies battled back from the two-goal deficit and tied the game with the scores at 6:19 and 7:07 of the period.

In the first overtime, Tyler Haskins was denied by Fresno goaltender Jake Moreland on a penalty-shot 3:03 into the period.

Utah goaltender Nathan Lawson stopped 39 of 42 Fresno shots to improve to 2-0 in the playoffs.

Utah outshot Fresno 59-42 in the six period game.

The best-of-seven series reverts to the E-Center for 7:05 p.m. face-offs Wednesday, Friday and Saturday*.
