Thunder Alum Martz, Beckett Giving Back

STOCKTON, Calif. - European jerseys of former Stockton Thunder all-star center Nathan Martz and veteran defenseman Jason Beckett are available through an online auction on eBay, benefiting the local-area Prosthetic Outreach organization.

The auction, which lasts until Monday, April 21, features jerseys from Martz's 07-08 season with the Storhamar Dragons of Norway and Beckett's 07-08 season with Red Bulls Salzburg (Austria). Donated by Martz and Beckett for auction, all proceeds will benefit fundraising for the Prosthetic Outreach organization, headed by Thunder Team Orthotist Mike Beck. Funds will aid construction for a children's outreach center located in the California Baja, Mexico.

Martz, 26, is the Thunder's all-time leading scorer with 122 points (25g-97a) in 126 games, spanning two seasons (2005-07) and was a National Conference selection at the 2007 ECHL All-Star Game. A fifth round selection (140th overall) of the New York Rangers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Martz led the Thunder in scoring last season with 65 points (9g-56a) in 61 games and led the club while ranking fifth in the ECHL with 56 assists.

A seven-year veteran, Beckett, 27, spent the 2006-07 season with the Thunder, scoring 21 points (5g-16a) with 111 penalty minutes in 63 games while helping guide the Thunder to the first Kelly Cup Playoff berth in team history. A second round selection (42nd overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Beckett scored the first goal in Thunder playoff history and served as alternate captain in 2006-07.

THUNDER FANS ARE ATTENDANCE CHAMPIONS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR

The Thunder finished the regular season as the ECHL's attendance champions for the third consecutive season and drew four capacity crowds of 9,737 this year at Stockton Arena. It is the second straight year the Thunder has surpassed the mark of 230,000 fans for one season. The Thunder's yearly attendance total finished at 239,337, an average of 6,648 fans per game. The Thunder became the first team since 2004-05 to lead the ECHL in attendance for three straight seasons (Florida led the ECHL in attendance for five straight seasons).
