Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA - Despite a late rally, the Chiefs were unable to overcome the deficit Tuesday night, falling to the Cincinnati Cyclones by a score of 4-2 at the War Memorial. Cincinnati now leads the best-of-seven series three games to none.

Johnstown came out storming in the first period, and outshot Cincinnati 13 to 8. Wes O'Neil had a chance, ripping a one timer from the point, but his shot was caught between the pads of Maxime Daigneault. With a Cyclones power play, Barret Ehgoetz would nearly put the puck in the net, but a sprawling Ryan Nie would make the save for the Chiefs. Mike Sgroi broke alone into the Cincinnati zone on a flip pass from Ray Macias late in the period, but he was unable to lift the disc over Daigneault's leg pad. The game was scoreless after one.

The Cyclones would find the score sheet twice in the second period, both goals coming on the man advantage. Matt Syroczynski would strike first, as he tallied the first power play marker from Olivier Latendresse and T.J. McElroy at 5:26. Jason Deitsch would add a goal at 11:15, going top shelf on Nie from Mathieu Aubin and Ehgoetz. Johnstown would assemble a firing squad in front of Daigneault but couldn't manage to find the back of the net; the Chiefs out-shot the Cyclones 13-7 in the second. Cincinnati took a 2-0 lead to the dressing room after 40 minutes.

Johnstown would finally find the board at 13:15 of the third, with Alexandre Imbeault hammering home a slap shot from Mike Knight and Kenny Roche, on a 4-on-3 power play. The Cyclones would answer with a goal from Aubin at 16:36, assisted by Deitsch. With Nie to the bench, the visiting team would pick up an empty netter at 19:32, as Thomas Beauregard tallied his third goal of the playoffs. Johnstown would not concede just yet, though, as Imbeault picked up the puck from the corner and found the twine at 19:49 by banking the puck off of Daigneault's right leg.

The Chiefs would go 1-for-11 on the power play Tuesday night, and they out-shot the Cyclones by a 41-21 margin. Ryan Nie would take the loss in net, turning aside 17 of 20 shots he saw.

The Chiefs will take on the Cyclones in game four of the North Division semi-finals tomorrow with a 7:05 p.m. face-off. If necessary, the teams will return to Cincinnati for game five of the series Friday, April 18, with a 7:35 p.m. puck drop. Game six, if necessary, is slated for Saturday, April 19, in Johnstown with a 7:05 p.m. start. Great seats are available for tomorrow's game at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial. Call 536-5156, or visit www.johnstownchiefs.com to get yours today!
