South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, SC - For the second night in a row the South Carolina Stingrays faced elimination. For the second night in a row the game was tied at two after regulation. And for the second night in a row the Stingrays pulled it out to win three to two, this time on a Trent Campbell goal.

"All of these games have been so close," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "I'm really glad to be a part of this series, but we came in with a goal and we have every intention of achieving it."

For the fourth straight time in as many games, the Stingrays came out and got the first goal of the game, this one scored by Marty Guerin, his third of the series. The goal came at 1:57 and was assisted by Trent Campbell. It wasn't until the final second of the period that Augusta tied things up. Travis Fuller scored his second goal of the series at 19:59, and after one period of play we were tied up at one.

In the second period, the Lynx got their first lead since the series moved to the Coliseum. Matt Auffrey, at 2:42, scored his second goal of the series to give the Lynx the 2-1 lead after two periods of play.

The third period was another tightly contested period, but Marty Guerin got his second tally of the night, his fourth of the playoffs, when he muscled his way through three defensemen at 9:21. The goal was unassisted and tied the game up at two, forcing the third straight overtime in the series.

In the first overtime, South Carolina had the overwhelming majority of chances, out shooting Augusta 10-2 in the period, but neither team could find the back of the net. It was in the second overtime that Campbell got his first goal of the playoffs, and a big one at that. At 3:36 of the second overtime, Campbell through a high shot on Augusta goaltender Bobby Goepfert who made the initial save. But the puck popped off of Goepfert and trickled in the net for the game winner, assisted by Stephen Werner and Sasha Pokulok.

The winning goaltender was Josh Johnson who stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Goepfert who stopped 40 of the 43 shots he faced. The Rays went 0-5 on the power play while killing off all four short handed situations they faced.

With the win, the South Carolina Stingrays will play a series deciding game five tomorrow night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Game time will be at 7:05 P.M.
