Jarret lifts Royals to 2-1 series lead

Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - Patrick Jarrett's pair of second period goals sparked the Reading Royals to a 3-2 win over the Elmira Jackals in Game Three of the North Division semifinal series Tuesday night in front of 2,274 at First Arena. The Royals now lead the best-of-seven set two games to one with Game Four Thursday in Reading.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the second period, Jarrett's first goal of the playoffs was set up by Kevin Saurette. After Elmira's Scott May punched an airborne puck to the end boards, Saurette quickly gathered it up and sent it out front to Jarrett. Unattended, Jarrett slid a shot low on the glove hand side of Joel Martin (28 saves) to tie the game at one at 5:31.
Jarrett then gave the Royals their first lead of the game ten and a half minutes later, circling a Steven Later point drive rebound around Martin to make it 2-1.
Struggling to generate shots all night long, Elmira was shorthanded when they were able to tie the game midway through the third period on just their second shot of the period.
With Trevor Hendrikx off for interference, Matt Gens cleared a puck off of Later's skate at the left point. Slow to react, Later was helpless as Pierre-Luc Faubert accelerated through center and picked up the loose puck.
Driving to the slot, Faubert went upstairs on Royals goalie Danny Taylor (17 saves) for his first of the post season to tie the game 2-2 with 10:10 left in regulation.
But the remaining time let on the Hendrikx call would prove to be too much to kill off and the Royals grabbed the lead right back forty-four seconds later.
Kevin Schaeffer, returned for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League earlier in the day, drilled home the game-winner from the right point for a unassisted goal at 10:34 to put Reading in front to stay.
For a third consecutive time in the series, the Jackals opened the scoring thanks in part to the stellar first period work of Martin between the piped. Stopping all 15 shots fired his way, one of those saves led to a transition for the Jackals.
Benoit Doucet scooped up a rolling puck at center and drove though the left circle in the Reading zone. Going deep, Doucet appeared to set up Bobby Robins for a stuff shot, but Doucet was credited with his first of the playoffs 13:37 into the game for Elmira's only lead of the game.
On the night, the Jackals were scoreless on five power play chances while the Royals were 1-for-7. Reading outshot Elmira for a third straight game, 31-19.
