Utah Beats Fresno In Sixth-Longest Game In ECHL History

PRINCETON, N.J. - Justin Bourne's goal at 6:23 of the third overtime on Monday in Fresno gave Utah a 4-3 win and ended the sixth-longest game in the 20-year history of the ECHL at 106:23.

It is the longest game since May 2, 2006 when Alaska beat Las Vegas 4-3 in 113:30, which is the third-longest game ever. The longest game in league history is 121:40 on May 5, 2000 as Greenville beat Louisiana 3-2 when Martin Masa scored at 1:24 of the fourth overtime.

The game on Monday was the 10th game that has gone more than 100 minutes and ironically it was the seventh time that the score has ended 4-3.

Both games on Monday went to overtime bringing the total number of overtime games in the Kelly Cup Playoffs to nine (30 percent of 30 games). The record is 20 overtime games in 2005 (30.3 percent of 66 games) and 2006 (24.4 percent of 82 games).

Two of the three games in the series between Augusta and South Carolina have gone to overtime with Augusta winning 4-3 on Saturday and South Carolina winning 3-2 on Monday.

There have been nine series where three games have gone to overtime with the most recent being in 2005 when Trenton beat Alaska in seven games and Greenville beat Pensacola in four games. The record for overtime games in a series is four in 1993 when Raleigh beat Hampton Roads in four games.
