Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The San Francisco Bulls (2-1-1-0) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (1-1-1-1) 3-2 in a shootout Friday at Maverik Center before 4,471 fans.
"I'm proud of the effort that they put forward again," said Grizzlies Head Coach Tim Branham. "It's a young team, it's good that we're getting points in the standings. It's definitely a learning experience for our young team."
Utah killed two early penalties and took a 1-0 first period lead on their first power-play as David Vallorani slammed in a shot from the right circle. Berkley Scott (3 games) and Adam Pineault (4 games) both extended their scoring streaks on the goal.
After San Francisco tied the game at one, Utah took a 2-1 lead 16:39 into the second period as Kris Hogg hammered in his first goal of the year, playing the puck off of the back wall on a power-play, on a Danick Paquette effort. Vallorani picked up another assist on the goal. The Bulls tied the game with 8 seconds left in the second on a two-on-one.
A scoreless third period saw Utah kill three penalties and goaltender Igor Babkov stopped a penalty shot to force the game to overtime.
"They've done a great job on the penalty-kill, we've gone over a lot of video and we've put certain things in place and they've done a great job," said Branham. "You have to give our guys credit and you have to give Bobkov credit."
Igor Bobkov stopped 31 of 33 shots in the game and four of five in the shootout.
The Grizzlies are off until next Friday and Saturday when they will kickoff November in Stockton. Face-offs both nights are at 8:30 p.m.
Utah is back home Friday, November 9; Saturday, November 10 and Monday, November 11 when Ontario will be at Maverik Center for three-straight 7:05 p.m. face-offs.
