
Jackals Announce Multiple Transactions

ELMIRA, N.Y. - October 26, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals announced today a handful of transactions prior to the 7:05 p.m. faceoff against the Reading Royals. Goalie Maxime Clermont has been reassigned by the New Jersey Devils from Elmira to the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League, and forward Ludwig Karlsson has been reassigned by the Ottawa Senators from Elmira to the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League. Additionally, the Jackals have had forward Jakub Culek (SOO-lehk) and defenseman Troy Rutkowski reassigned to the club by Ottawa from Binghamton. Both are expected to be in the lineup tonight.
Clermont has suited up in 42 games as a Jackal in his career with a 20-14-5 record. This season he has started both of the Jackals first two games and has a 3.07 goals-against average and a 0.833 save percentage.
Karlsson, a 22 year old rooke, scored his first professional goal last night for the Jackals in a 3-1 loss to Reading. He suited up in 49 games at Northeastern University, before coming to Elmira, with 32 points (15 goals, 19 assists).
Culek helped Ruimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL to the President Cup Final in 2012 with 13 goals and 27 assists in 55 regular season games and 11 points (4G, 7A) in 21 playoff games. In his junior career he tallied 37 goals and 79 assists.
Rutowski comes to the Jackals after scoring 1 goal in 4 games for the B-Sens. He ranked second among WHL defencemen in assists and points and was third in goals during the 2012-13 season for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL.
In related moves, the Jackals have activated Mathieu Gagnon, placed Alex Carrier on reserve, and signed Joey Spagnoli to a player contract.
