Elmira Jackals News Release
READING, Pa. - October 26, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals finish a weekend home-and-home pair with a visit to the Reading Royals tonight. The Jackals are looking to snap a short two game skid and pick up their first win of the season.
WHO: Elmira Jackals - Ottawa and New Jersey/NHL & Binghamton and Albany/AHL (0-2-0) vs. Reading Royals - Washington/NHL & Hershey/AHL (2-1-0).
WHAT: Jackals Road Game #2. Game broadcast on Gem 98.7 begins at 6:45. Click here to listen live online.
WHERE: Santander Arena - 700 Penn Street., Reading, Pa. 19602
WHEN: 7:05 p.m.
The Jackals are facing the Royals tonight for the second of 16 meetings this season and first of nine at Santander Arena. The Jackals went 7-7-2 against the Royals last season and ran their all-time record to 43-30-9 against Reading. Last year's head-to-head record included a 3-4-1 record for Elmira on the road against a Reading team that went 26-8-2 on its home ice. The Jackals have faced the Royals more times (82) and beaten them more times (43) than any other team in the ECHL. This year will add to that stat since the Royals are Elmira's most common opponent. A new element to the rivalry is that three former Jackals from the 11-12 and 12-13 teams - Dustin Gazley, Louie Caporusso, and Matt Campanale, all play for Reading now.
The Jackals will rack up plenty of miles over the first five weeks of the 13-14 season. They play eight of their first 11 games away from the friendly confines of First Arena. They visit Wheeling four times, Reading twice, Florida twice, and Orlando once. The Jackals combined to go 5-10-1 in those buildings last year with three of the five victories coming in Reading. Overall the Jackals were 18-15-3 on the road last season which produced their third most road wins since joining the ECHL. From November 22 to December 11 the Jackals play eight of nine at home.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return home on November 1, 2013 to take on the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. The Jackals will be giving away free magnetic schedules to the fans in attendance. Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Call 607-734-7825 to get your group outing booked.
