
Painchaud Powers Stingrays Past Road Warriors on Opening Night

North Charleston, S.C. - Forward Chad Painchaud scored two goals to help the South Carolina Stingrays (3-0-0-1) defeat the Greenville Road Warriors (2-2-0-0) 4-1 on Opening Night in front of 5,070 at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday evening.
Painchaud broke open the scoring on the power play 7:15 into the contest lifting a wrist shot over the glove of Road Warriors goaltender Carsen Chubak (L, 39 saves on 43 shots) from the top of the right-wing circle. Defensemen Scooter Vaughan and Derrick Pallis picked up assists. Forward Marc Hagel made it a 2-0 Stingrays lead knocking in a rebound off a Peter Boyd shot at 10:45. Defenseman Ryan Grimshaw added the second assist.
Forward Scott Campbell continued the offensive onslaught with his fourth goal of the season at 4:37 of the final period with help from forward Igor Gongalsky and defenseman Luka Vidmar. Painchaud buried his second goal of the night on the man-advantage nearly four minutes later tapping in a loose puck off the right post. Forwards Jack Downing and Chris Langkow recorded assists. Road Warriors rookie Elgin Pearce spoiled Jeff Jakaitis' (W, 21 saves on 22 shots) shutout bid at 13:30 from forwards Guillaume Asselin and Sean Berkstresser. The Stingrays finished the night 2-for-5 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-2.
