Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies have released a request for proposal for a solar power installation at Chukchansi Park, their Downtown Fresno home in its 18th year of operation. Proposals are due to the organization's front office by September 12.

Sitting on nine acres, the stadium uses an annual average of over three million kilowatt-hours of electricity, resulting in an estimated $600,000 in energy payments for the 2018 calendar year. The Grizzlies are looking to transition to solar to be a more responsible corporate citizen, as there is a renewed focus on making Chukchansi Park a community gathering place beyond the 70-plus home dates of Pacific Coast League baseball each season. As a result, 2018 will see the most use of Chukchansi Park since it opened in 2002.

Between Fresno Grizzlies home games, Fresno FC home matches (United Soccer League), other "Liga MX" Mexican soccer exhibitions and four major concert events, Chukchansi Park is a multi-purpose, year-round facility. There are also over 100 community events held at the stadium a year, utilizing the field, indoor function rooms, and the soon-to-be-completed social gathering space on the "H Street" side of the stadium. A transition to solar energy is a logical next step as several facets of the facility continue to be improved under the Grizzlies' new ownership.

With the price of utilities rising each season, a reduction in energy costs will allow the Grizzlies to pass those savings on to fans.

"'Going green' is more than just a catch phrase these days, and it's important we're staying up with the best ways to keep Chukchansi Park viable," said Fresno Grizzlies President Derek Franks. "Our finances are certainly important, but we need to make sure, along with our soccer and concert partners, that we're using energy in the most responsible way possible. The stadium is in use more days than not, so we look forward to seeing the proposals."

"We applaud the Grizzlies organization for their decision to seek out clean sources of energy for their stadium," said Terry Metters, Jr. of PG&E, Senior Manager, Fresno Division. "We work closely with the Grizzlies and all of our customers to help them reduce their energy costs, and increase the amount of clean energy used throughout our service territory. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Grizzlies for many years to come."

Respondents will be required to deliver four hard copies of their proposal to Chukchansi Park (1800 Tulare Street) by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12. Respondents that do not visit the stadium in person by August 31 will not be considered. For more details and to arrange access to tour the stadium, respondents should e-mail Allison Farrell in the Fresno Grizzlies front office at afarrell@fresnogrizzlies.com.
