Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Sky Sox marked their 60th win of the season with an 8-4 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium in the final game of the series and road trip. Five and the eight Colorado Springs runs batted in were scored on three home runs. Righty Alec Asher collected his sixth win of the season after his six-inning performance.

After a scoreless first frame, Colorado Springs were first to cross the plate in the top of the second to take an early 1-0 lead. Jett Bandy led off and was hit by a pitch while Domingo Santana slugged a double behind him to put two runners in scoring position. A hard hit line drive by Keon Broxton would find the glove of left fielder Cameron Perkins, unable to bring in a run, however, Rymer Liriano followed with a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to score Bandy.

In the fourth, the Sky Sox put the pedal to the metal, sending 10 batters to the plate and extending their early lead to 7-0. Christian Bethancourt started the rhythm with a base hit and Bandy homered in the next at-bat. Santana restarted the frame, getting on after a fielding error, and once again, a home run cleared the bases, this time off the bat of Broxton, totaling four runs in four at bats. The final two runs were collected on Tyler Saladino's two-out line drive single to left field to plate Tyrone Taylor and Dylan Moore, who singled and walked respectively.

Sky Sox started Alec Asher, who was hitless and one over the minimum entering the bottom of the fourth, allowed his first hit to leadoff and rehabbing Robinson Cano. Then, with two outs and two runners in scoring position, Andrew Aplin sent a double to left field to give Tacoma their first two runs of the day, making it a 7-2 contest.

The Rainiers closed in on the Sky Sox with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a three-run ballgame at 7-4, courtesy of Aplin. With two outs, Deth Mejias-Brean doubled and Perkins followed with a single. After a wild pitch to push Perkins to second base, Aplin delivered another two-out, two-RBI double.

Santana continued his offensive rhythm on the day in his fourth at-bat in the seventh inning with a solo home run, his fourth with the Sky Sox, to gain a run back and extend the advantage to 8-4, and that is where the scoring would end.

Five Sky Sox relievers - Bubba Derby, Quintin Torres-Costa, Paolo Espino, Mike Zagurski, Tristan Archer - combined for the remaining three innings while allowing just one hit total.

The Sky Sox return home to Security Service Field for a four-game series beginning on Thursday, August 9 with a 6:40 p.m. MST first pitch. For all information on Sky Sox, follow along on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and visit the team's website at www.skysox.com.
