DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (42-72) dropped the series finale 9-6 to the Las Vegas 51s (57-58) after a slow start in the first innings, Tuesday at Principal Park.

Las Vegas attacked Jen-Ho Tseng early, tacking on six runs over three frames. Peter Alonso batted in four of his team's quick six runs, thanks to a double and a home run. When Tseng exited the game after the third inning, the I-Cubs found themselves down 6-0.

Kyle Ryan replaced Tseng in the fourth and gave up one run over two innings and left with Iowa down 7-0. Anthony Bass entered in the sixth and dazzled throwing eight pitches, all strikes, to get three outs in his second rehab outing with Iowa.

The I-Cubs got on the board in the sixth when Stephen Bruno slapped a ball down the right field line, scoring Chris Coghlan. Similarly, Taylor Davis added another I-Cubs run on a double to right field making the game 7-2.

Las Vegas tacked on a run in the seventh, but Iowa responded immediately in the bottom of the frame. Coghlan had four hits on the day and drove in Iowa's third run of the game with a single. Cody Asche kept Vegas far ahead with a ninth-inning home run to make the game 9-3.

The Iowa comeback train was on in the ninth as the team scored three runs with two outs that put the game in reach at 9-6. Iowa had an opportunity to win the game when Brad Markey stepped in with the bases loaded and two outs, but the pitcher hit a ground ball to end the game.

The I-Cubs have an off day tomorrow but will travel to New Orleans and start a four-game series on Thursday. For more information or tickets visit www.iowacubs.com.
