West Valley City - The Utah Grizzlies put together two goals in the third period to ground the Houston Aeros 3-1 at the 'E' Center on Wednesday. Mike Smith earned the victory for the Grizzlies stopping 25 shots.

The only goal of the first 40 minutes for either team came off the stick of Jarrod Skalde with the man-advantage at 13:17 of the first period. It was Warren Peters whose effort held the puck in the offensive zone setting up Skalde's sixth goal of the season.

After a scoreless second period, Houston got on the board when Mike Smith left his post getting caught up behind the net as the Aeros' Dan Cavanaugh picked up the easy score on an open net. With the game tied 1-1, David Gove gave the Grizzlies back the lead when he attacked the net at 14:52 of the third period. Gove collected his own rebound and then his fifth goal of the season on the second effort. Only one minute later, Grizzlies newcomer Zenon Konopka caught a pass from David Bararuk and guided it off his stick perfectly into the net. Bararuk finished the game with a pair of assists and the game's first star honors.

Utah improves to 7-12-1-2 while Houston (5-13-2-2) now has eight straight games without a win, a franchise record. The Grizzlies will be back in action at the 'E' Center to face the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's face-off is scheduled for 7:05 pm MST.
