AHL Quick Hits

Published on December 3, 2003 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

A day after parent clubs Atlanta and Nashville made a four-player swap involving three former Calder Cup champions, Chicago and Milwaukee hook up at the Bradley Center on Wednesday night (7:00 CT). Simon Gamache, a 35-goal scorer in his first full AHL season a year ago, and Kirill Safronov are the newest members of the Admirals, while Ben Simon and Tomas Kloucek head to the Thrashers. Milwaukee has won three straight to improve to 10-4-3-2, good for a conference-leading .658 points percentage. This is the first of 10 meetings this season between the lakeshore rivals; the Wolves owned a 7-4-0-1 edge in the 2002-03 series.

Philadelphia puts its seven-game unbeaten streak on the line Wednesday (7:30 ET) in Hershey against the league-leading Bears. The teams have played three times this season, with the Phantoms winning all three by a combined score of 14-4. Kirby Law recorded seven points in the three contests, including the game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime decision on Nov. 8. Hershey is 6-2-2-0 since that loss, and enters the week with a one-point lead over Bridgeport, Hamilton and Grand Rapids atop the AHL's overall standings.

Hartford visits Manchester on Wednesday (7:05 ET) in a battle between the frontrunners in a tight Atlantic Division, where four points separate first place from fifth. The home team has won each of the clubs' first three meetings this year, most recently a 4-2 Wolf Pack victory one week ago. Pavel Rosa has recorded a point in six straight games to move into a tie for the AHL's scoring lead with 26 points on the season, but the Monarchs are just 1-4-0-2 when he scores a goal in 2003-04. The Wolf Pack are coming off a 4-0 win over Houston on Saturday, as Jason LaBarbera extended his personal unbeaten run to 6-0-2 with his third shutout of the year.
