Svitov returns to Bulldogs

Tampa Bay Lightning Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced today the Lightining have reassigned center Alexander Svitov to AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs.

Svitov, 21, was recalled from Hamilton on November 3 and appeared in 11 games with the Lightning, recording three assists and 4 penalty minutes. He has appeared in 11 games with the Bulldogs this season, recording three goals, two assists and 31 penalty minutes. Svitov skated in 63 games with the Lightning as a rookie in 2002-03, posting four goals, four assists and 58 penalty minutes. He was scoreless in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games last season.

Svitov, a 6-foot-3, 217-pound native of Omsk, Russia, was selected third overall by the Lightning at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He was ranked second overall among European skaters prior to the draft after tallying eight goals and six assists in 39 games with Avangard Omsk of the Russian Elite League during the 2000-01 season.

Svitov made his debut in Russia's top league as a 16-year-old in 1998-99 and was a regular for two seasons. He also played for Avangard VDV of Russia's Junior League in 1998-99 and 1999-00, recording 28 goals and 45 points in 41 games. In international competition, Svitov skated for Russia at the 2000 World Under-18 Championships (three goals, five assists in six games), the 2001 World Junior Championships (one assist, 58 penalty minutes in six games) and the 2002 World Junior Championships (two goals, one assist and 43 penalty minutes in five games).

The Hamilton Bulldogs next action will take place on Friday, December 5th (7:00 p.m.) as they will host the Binghamton Senators at Copps Coliseum.
