Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (38-26-3-3) defeated the Alaska Aces 2-0 Saturday night at Maverik Center before 6,802 fans in the regular season home finale.
"We can't say enough about the Maverik Center and our fan base," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham.
"They're just tremendous every single game. The boys play hard in front of them and our record has shown that over the last three years. There is no place we'd rather be than here. It's awesome; we can't say enough about it. We're very appreciative."
Grizzlies goaltender Mark Owuya (7-5-0-1) recorded the shutout by stopping all 33 shots that he saw; including 14 shots in the second period and 13 shots in the third period.
"Mark Owuya was sensational," said Branham. "He kept us in there in the first, made some huge saves in the third and the Moore line (Bryan Moore, T.J. Syner, Alex Krushelnyski) was tremendous for the second night in a row. They played rock solid."
With the win, the Grizzlies move into a three-way tie with Idaho and Colorado for first place in the West Division going into the final week of the regular season.
"Good teams find a way to win. Right now our boys are confident," said Branham. "They want to win a championship and get first place in the division. We took care of business tonight."
Alex Krushelnyski's 25th goal of the season broke the scoreless tie 16:44 into the second period as he took a centering pass from Bryan Moore as T.J. Syner also picked up an assist as the three worked in the Alaska zone.
Utah took a 2-0 lead 4:46 into the third as Moore scored in transition from Syner again. Phil Pietroniro also picked up an assist.
The Grizzlies wrap up the regular season Friday and Saturday in Rapid City.
