Grizzlies Open 10 of 11 Games at Home Starting Friday
January 9, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
The Situation
After Wednesday in Colorado, Utah opens a stretch of 10 of their next 11 games at home. The Grizzlies finished this past weekend with again a shorthanded group consisting of 10 regular skaters and three signed Alaskans due to injuries and call-ups.
Offensively
Paul McIlveen is Utah's hottest active player and has scored in 17 of his last 21 games and has 13 goals and 13 assists in the stretch. His 13 goals are second in the league over the span and his 26 points put him sixth overall.
Penalty-Kill
The Grizzlies penalty-kill, which ranked number one in the ECHL for nearly the first two months of the season until they were decimated by injuries is back on track. They are 21 for their last 23 and had a stretch of 13-straight kills over the weekend in Anchorage. The Grizzlies current run is more remarkable by the matter that Thursday they killed four-straight minutes shorthanded and another stretch of almost three-straight minutes that included 58 seconds being down by two men. Saturday, they killed two-straight minutes shorthanded five-on-three.
End Of The Road
Utah will make their fifth and final road trip to Colorado for the regular season Wednesday. It marks the team's fifth trip to Colorado in less than two months and their 11th game in their last 24 against the Eagles. After this week, the two teams will only meet again March 23 and 24 in Utah.
Speaking Of Done
The Grizzlies completed their 10-game season series with Alaska this past weekend, the earliest the two teams have completed their regular season festivities so early.
Bring On Idaho
Utah will play the first of 10 remaining games with Idaho Friday, which will also mark the first of six meetings against the Steelheads in January.
Idaho Defector
Ryan Watson, who was acquired from Idaho on December 19 has four assists in his first four home games with the Grizzlies.
Good Goaltending
Grizzlies goaltending has allowed three goals or less in four-straight games.
