Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
THIS PAST WEEK:
About Sunday Afternoon in Elmira: For the second straight night, Louis Caporusso potted the game-winning goal, this time in a shootout, as the Jackals defeated the Cyclones by a 4-3 final score in front of 3,234 at First Arena. The Cyclones erased a two-goal third period deficit to force overtime and earn a point.
About Saturday Night in Elmira: Louis Caporusso's second period goal proved to be the game-winner as the Jackals defeated the Cyclones by a 4-1 score in front of 3,474 at First Arena. Chris Cahill extended his goal-scoring streak to four games with the lone Cyclones tally in the loss.
About Last Friday Night in Wheeling: Rookie Chris Barton had a three-point night as he helped the Nailers defeat the Cyclones by a 5-2 final score in front of 2,752 at WesBanco Arena. The loss snapped Cincinnati's season-high six-game winning streak. Chris Cahill and Mike Pelech scored for the Cyclones in a losing effort.
SHOTS FROM THE POINT:
Three's Company: For the second consecutive weekend, the Cyclones will prepare for a "three-in-three" stretch. On Friday night, they will entertain the Kalamazoo Wings in a critical North Division battle in Downtown Cincinnati. The Clones trail the Wings by just nine points in the standings with four-games in hand. Then, on Saturday, they will welcome the Wheeling Nailers to U.S. Bank Arena for the first time before closing the weekend against the Nailers at WesBanco Arena.
Cahill Charging Along: Cyclones forward Chris Cahill wrapped up an impressive week on Sunday afternoon. This past Wednesday, he notched his first career multi-goal game with a pair of lamp-lighters. He then followed with goals on Friday and Saturday to extend his goal-scoring streak to four games. And although he had that streak snapped on Sunday, he did tally in the shootout against the Jackals in a 4-3 defeat. He has now registered a point in seven of his last nine games and has at least a goal in four of his last five games. His numbers helped him get nominated for ECHL Player of the Week.
Speaking of Awards: Rookie forward Anthony Luciani was named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Player of the Month for December, earning 4 goals and 7 assists in 8 games with a pair of game-winning goals. He has now established himself as one of the league's top first-year players, ranking tied for sixth among rookies with 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists).
Gaining Ground: Coming into the week, the Cyclones are rapidly cutting into the North Division lead. They sit just five points behind second place Chicago with five games in hand and now are just nine points behind division-leading Kalamazoo with four games in hand.
