January 9, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
Friday, January 6; Eagles, Jones Move Up in Standings
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers, 5-3, moving within a pair of points of the Western Conference's 2nd place team. With the victory, Kyle Jones also moved up a pair of rankings lists; he is now tied for the ECHL lead with 15 wins, and he can now claim the second-most wins in franchise history with 44.
Saturday, January 7; Wranglers Split Weekend Set With 7-4 Win
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles dropped a game to the Las Vegas Wranglers, 7-4, splitting their weekend set at the Budweiser Events Center. The Pacific Division's top team -- sitting four points ahead of the Eagles in the Conference standings -- scored four goals in 144 seconds midway through the game to blow it open.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Wednesday, Jan. 11; Utah Makes Final Visit to BEC
One week before the season's midpoint, the Eagles will play their final home game of the season against their most-frequent opponent. It will mark the 11th meeting of the season already between the teams, and the 6th at the BEC. So far Colorado is 6-2-2 against the Grizzlies, helped by the fact that they've won the past four games against them -- including the past two at home by a combined score of 13-2
Friday, Jan. 13 & Saturday, Jan. 14; Eagles Fly to Take on Condors
Unlike Utah, the Eagles & Condors still have plenty of match-ups remaining, as the teams will meet seven more times. Five of those games will take place in California -- starting with this weekend's set -- where the Condors have struggled to get wins. Bakersfield has one of the worst home records in the ECHL at just 4-10-3, a big reason they own the league's lowest point total (20) & lowest winning percentage (.278). The Eagles, however, are just 1-1-0 so far in Condorstown, being out-scored 5-4.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
WILD WEST SHOOTOUTS - Games between the Eagles and Wranglers have been offensive showcases, with the teams combining for eight goals or more in each of their five meetings. So far in the season series, the teams have combined for 49 goals in 5 games, an average of nearly 10 goals per contest. Las Vegas owns a 26-23 edge in goals, having put up nine & seven in two of the meetings.
HELLO, GOODBYE - The Eagles and Grizzlies certainly had their fill of each other in December, facing-off seven times & accounting for over half of their 13 total meetings this season. But they'll get the chance to meet one more time on Wednesday before taking a long break from each other. After this week's game, the Eagles won't play their closest rival until the second-to-last weekend of the season, March 23 & 24 in Utah.
IN HIBERNATION - The Eagles are 6-2-2 against the Grizzlies so far, dominating the series recently after it was extremely close early on in the season. Colorado has won the past four meetings, including the past two at the BEC by a combined score of 13-2.
SLEEPING GIANTS - The Eagles are 3-1-0 this season against the Condors, dropping their first meeting during the season's first weekend before taking the past three. The Condors have struggled overall (8-24-4) and at home (4-10-3) this season, but the Eagles are just 1-1 in Condorstown, being out-scored 5-4 in the two games.
BACK END BRILLIANCE - The Eagles have the highest scoring pair of defensemen in the ECHL, with Aaron Schneekloth (31) & Jon Landry (29) ranking #1 & #2 in the league. Each is tied for the lead league in goals (12) among d-men, while Schneekloth is also leading blueliners in power-play points (17) & shots (101).
AN ALL-TIME GREAT - Veteran defenseman Aaron Schneekloth is already the highest scoring d-man in team history with 291 points (97-194-291) -- ranking 6th on the club's all-time list -- and he's about to become the franchise's all-time leader among d-men in games played as well. Schneekloth enters the week with 304 career regular season games with Colorado (the same number that Greg Pankewicz played in), one short of Brad Williamson 's 305. By the end of the week he'll trail only Riley Nelson (529), Ryan Tobler (367) & Fraser Filipic (326) in team annals.
