January 9, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," announced its second annual "Star Wars Night," when the Thunder battles the Idaho Steelheads at the Stockton Arena on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
A night that combines hockey and film passions will once again be loaded with Star Wars themed contests, events and interactive opportunities from the moment fans enter the doors at 6:30 p.m.
The event will offer a special appearance by the famed 501st Legion, Central California Garrison, who will be on hand during the night for photo opportunities, complete with film prop display booths.
Fans are invited to wear a costume of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker or any other favorite Star Wars characters and get a $5 discount on tickets purchased at the Stockton Arena Ticket Office only on event night.
During first intermission, an on-ice costume contest will be featured, with the winner being chosen by a Legion member. The winner will be treated to a Zamboni ride during second intermission.
A special "jersey off the back" auction will be held during the game, where fans can enter to win a game-worn Thunder jersey by purchasing raffle tickets. Tickets are sold for $1 until the start of the third period. Raffle proceeds will benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Council of San Joaquin County. The winner will be presented with the jersey during the third period, by the participating player and a "mystery" Star Wars character.
"We are very much looking forward to our 2nd annual Star Wars Night with the Stockton Thunder," said Thunder president Dan Chapman. "Last year's appearance by the 501st was a huge hit with our fans and they truly take the Star Wars theme to another level. This is one promotion that fans of all ages will thoroughly enjoy."
There are more surprise events are in store throughout the night for all fans, offering special appearances by Darth Vader, Storm Troopers and more. Last year's inaugural event featured a sold out crowd of 9,396 at Stockton Arena on Mar. 19 when the Thunder defeated Idaho, 5-1.
Group seats of 10 or more tickets are available for a discounted rate by calling the Thunder at (209) 373-1500.
