Grizzlies Look to Extend Point Streak Against Griffins to Four Games Tonight at the 'E' Center
January 31, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City -The Utah Grizzlies will try to continue the success they found Friday against Grand Rapids when they meet the Griffins again at the 'E' Center tonight for a 7:05 pm (mst) face-off. With the help of Mike Smith's 1-0 shutout over Grand Rapids last night, the Grizzlies are now the only team in the league with a winning record against the Griffins (2-1-1-0) and have a three-game point streak (2-0-1) overall against the best in the West.
Utah's only loss to Grand Rapids this season came on October 24 when Curtis Joseph was guarding the Griffin's net. Since then, the Grizzlies have outscored the Griffins 4-2 in three games and posted two shutouts while getting off only 79 shots compared to the Griffins' 106. Still, Utah (15-25-4-3) has not managed to beat a team twice in as many nights since Cincinnati came to town on December 6.
The Griffins (27-13-8-0) lead the league in points (62) and their closest opponent in the Western Division standings is Chicago who is now five points back. Grand Rapids has lost only three times since December 31, but two of those losses came against Utah.
The win last night for Utah marked the 900th and 901st points in the franchises' 10-year history.
Tonight's game completes a six-game home stand. The Grizzlies will head to Houston Tuesday playing four on the road before returning to the 'E' Center on Valentine's Day.
