January 31, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

The Providence Bruins concluded their three-game road trip on Saturday night in Hershey, Pennsylvania as they snapped a four-game losing skid with a 3-1 victory over the Bears. The Black and Gold remains in second place in the Atlantic Division with its 22-15-10-1 record. The Bruins are four points behind their next opponent, the division-leading Hartford Wolf Pack.

Providence center Kris Vernarsky scored an unassisted shorthanded goal in the first period, and added an assist on rookie right wing Mike Scott's first career AHL goal. Scott, playing in his third AHL game, scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 1:25 of the second period. Left wing Darren VanOene notched his seventh goal of the year on a second period power play. Defenseman Kevin Dallman had two assists for the Black and Gold, and has points (1-5-6) in four of his last five games.

Goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 32 shots for his fifth win in his last six decisions. He has allowed two or fewer goals in eight straight starts, including one shutout, with a 5-2-1 record over that span. Thomas is 12-7-5 on the season.

The Bruins return home to host the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday, February 6 at 7:05 p.m.
