Four-goal first period leads Wolves past Ducks

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Brendan Yarema scored twice in the first period to help the Chicago Wolves skate past the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, 5-3, Saturday at Cincinnati Gardens.

Stephen Baby and Eric Healey each had a goal and an assist for the Wolves, who won their sixth straight game and improved to 12-2-3-1 since Christmas.

Michael Garnett, a third-round pick by Atlanta in 2001, stopped 33 shots to pick up the win.

Yarema, who had 19 goals and 35 points in 59 games last season for Cincinnati, has four goals, including three game-opening goals, in four games against his former team this season.

Stanislav Chistov and Alexei Smirnov, a pair of first-round picks by Anaheim, each had a goal and an assist for Cincinnati, which fell to 1-3-1-0 in its last five games.

Ilya Bryzgalov surrendered three goals on 12 shots before being pulled in the first period in favor of Eddy Ferhi. Ferhi gave up just two goals on 22 shots in 38:31 minutes of action, but was saddled with the loss.
