January 31, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City -The Utah Grizzlies watched the Grand Rapids rack up four second period goals Saturday as the Griffins went on to post a 5-2 win at the 'E' Center in front of 8,104. Nathan Robinson and Derek Miller both registered a goal and an assist for the Griffins and Joey MacDonald earned the win with 27 saves.

The Grizzlies (15-26-4-3) looked to be riding the success of Friday night's victory over the Griffins when the first period opened. Jarrod Skalde found the net for the 18th time this season at the 4:53 mark assisted by Dan Jancevski and Mathias Tjarnqvist. Jancevski was playing in his 200th game for the Grizzlies. The Griffins responded at 15:55 of the first on the power play when Michel Picard tied the score at 1-1.

The second period was nearly all Grand Rapids. The Griffins (28-13-8-0) began their scoring drive with a shorthanded goal off Kevin Miller's stick at 1:31 of the second. Nathan Robinson would add another score two minutes later. An unassisted effort by Hugo Boisvert at the 8:06 mark gave the Griffins a 4-1 lead. Even so, the Grizzlies fought back with a long swat by Trevor Daley, his first goal of the season, which came on the power play at 9:30 of the second. However, Jeff Nelson would score what would prove to be the game's final goal at 14:22 giving Grand Rapids the 5-2 advantage. Mike Smith, who finished with 12 saves exited the game after the second period replaced by Dan Ellis.

The Grizzlies will now play four straight on the road beginning with a Tuesday night contest against the Houston Aeros. Face-off for that game is scheduled for 6:00 pm (mst).
