Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - The Wings suffered their third straight loss, falling to Buffalo, 18-10, Saturday at the Wachovia Center in front of 13,641 fans. The Bandits jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and took advantage off Wings' penalties for the victory. Goalie Dallas Eliuk was pulled from goal for the second straight time in a home game. John Tavares led the Bandits with four goals and four assists. Tony Henderson led the Philadelphia offense with four goals and an assist.
"We have to keep our composure ," said Wings' coach Adam Mueller. "Their goalie played great and we started making a run in the third and fourth quarter, but it came down to being in the penalty box too long. We just need to go back to the way we played the first two games and go from there. We have to make sure we're not taking any penalties."
The Bandits dominated in the opening quarter, outscoring the Wings, 6-0, with goals from six different players. Steve Dietrich was perfect in goal with eight saves. Buffalo's Aime Caines scored in the first minute of play and the team followed with power play goals by John Tavares and Jason Crosbie. AJ Shannon continued the offense before Mike Accursi chipped in with Buffalo's third power-play goal of the quarter. Jason Clark rounded out he scoring with just over a minute left in the quarter.
Buffalo started the second quarter with an early goal by its seventh different scorer, Neal Powles. The Wings finally put the ball past Dietrich with three straight goals by Dan Marohl, Keith Cromwell and Tony Henderson. The Bandits took over once again with four more unanswered goals. Clark, Accursi and Tavares each added their second of the game with power play goals. Jonas Derks scored his first of the game for Buffalo with a short-handed tally to chase Dallas Eliuk out of goal for Philadelphia. He was replaced by Nick Schroeder. Henderson scored his second of the game late in the quarter as the Wings trailed, 11-4, at halftime.
John Tavares complete the hat trick to open the second half, but the Wings turned the momentum with goals by Cromwell and Mark Frye, both on the power play. Tony Henderson completed the hat trick for Philadelphia, while Mark Steenhuis finished the scoring for the Bandits with two goals.
Steenhuis started where he left off in the final quarter with his third goal of the game. The Wings started a comeback with goals by Henderson and Andrew Wasik, but Bandits battled right back as Tavares and Steenhuis each recorded their fourth goals of the game. Dan Marohl scored a late goal for Philadelphia, but Buffalo had the final say with a goal by Pat McCready.
