Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, IL - Gateway pushed across two runs in the first inning and that was all they would need in a 9-1 drubbing of the Windy City ThunderBolts on Friday night at GCS Ballpark. The win for the Grizzlies snapped a three-game losing streak and brought the ThunderBolts losing streak to eight games.
Playing in front of a crowd of 4,529, Gateway (29-40) took a 2-0 first inning lead on just one hit. Windy City starting pitcher Guido Fonseca (2-9) walked four Gateway batters, which led to a pair of runs.
Windy City (35-35) answered with a run in the second. Chris Wade hit a two-out solo homer to cut the Gateway lead in half. It was just the 19th home run of the season for the ThunderBolts.
Joe Agreste and Charlie Lisk led the Grizzlies to a three-run fifth inning. Agreste drove in a run with a double, while Lisk blasted a two-run homer, his 14th of the season.
Brian Harris added to the Grizzlies lead with an RBI single in the seventh inning. Meanwhile, Lisk drove in two more with a triple in the eighth and Kent Gerst plated Lisk on a groundout to cap off the scoring.
Lisk finished 2-for-4 with four RBI. DJ Fitzgerald, Landon Hernandez and Tyler Heil also had multi-hit games for the Grizzlies, who notched 12 hits in the win.
Andres Caceres Jr. (2-1) got the start for Gateway and picked up the win. The rookie left-hander surrendered just one on six hits.
The Grizzlies continue their series with the second of three against the Windy City Thunderbolts on Saturday night. Rookie right-hander Ryan Juarez (3-1) gets the start for Gateway in game two of the series, looking for his fourth win in a row. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT at GCS Ballpark.
