Florence Y'alls News Release

Andy Clark threw seven scoreless innings as the Freedom shutout Washington 3-0 on Friday night in Florence. The win snapped the Freedom's season-high nine-game losing streak.

The Freedom jumped on top in the second inning. Stephen Shults hit a one-out double to left center and Jeff Dunbar followed with a homer to left field, his first as a member of the Freedom, to give Florence a 2-0 lead. It was Dunbar's fourth homer combined between Normal and Florence in 2011.

Drew Rundle and John Malloy hit back-to-back singles in the fourth and Junior Arrojo hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.

Freedom starter Andy Clark (9-3) was dominant in seven shutout innings. He held the Wild Things to four hits, walked two and struck out eight. It was the second time in three starts that he tossed seven scoreless innings. In his last eight starts he is 5-2 with a 1.83 ERA and has allowed just 11 earned runs in his last 54 innings.

Washington starting pitcher Casey Barnes (5-5) surrendered three runs on seven hits in seven innings for the loss.

Corey Martin pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Freedom and Brandon Mathes threw a perfect ninth inning for his first save.

The shutout was the second by the Freedom pitching staff this season. Clark was also the starting pitcher for that shutout on July 26, which had been the Freedom's most recent win before Friday. The nine-game losing streak was tied with Rockford for the longest in the Frontier League this season.

Game two of the series will be on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. Alec Lewis (1-4, 4.01) will start for the Freedom on Rockin' Saturday, with post-game live music from Doghouse.
