River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - Stephen Holdren set the single-season franchise homerun record with his 20th, a solo shot to left field, that would stand as the game-winner in River City's 4-1 win, finishing the sweep of the ThunderBolts.

It was a frustrating start for the Rascals (51-17) who grounded into a double play in each of the first four innings, getting their lone run on four straight singles, the first from Logan Parker in his first at-bat since being acquired from Gateway. Parker would score on a Danny Sawyer single to give River City a 1-0 lead in the second.

Rascals' starter Don Lisi (5-1) pitched well through six innings, allowing just one earned run on a two-out pop fly that was lost in the lights, tying the game at 1-1 in the fifth. Lisi allowed just five hits with a career-high eight strikeouts while not walking a batter against Windy City (35-34) who entered the game third in the league in hitting. Holdren's homerun in the bottom of the sixth gave River City a 2-1 lead before the bullpen took over.

The three all-stars in the pen, Derrick Miramontes, Kirkland Rivers, and Brandon Cunniff, did not allow a hit over the final three innings and the Rascals padded their lead in the seventh with a Jason Patton homerun and an RBI single from Eric Williams scoring Sawyer who reached third on a hit, stolen base, and error.

Cunniff picked up his eighth save in a perfect ninth. Holdren's 20th homerun this season was also the 99th of his career.

River City begins a three-game set Friday against the Joliet Slammers, the top team in the East Division. Joliet will send lefty Brian Fowler (4-2, 2.47) to the mound against River City's Josh Lowey (6-2, 2.56).
