Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-3 Wednesday night at Maverik Center for their fifth-straight win at home as they head into their 10-day Holiday Break.
"I thought we did a really good job," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "I thought we did a good job of sticking to the system, limiting Colorado's chances, creating turnovers and going the other way."
The Grizzlies scored three-straight goals to build a 3-1 lead after Colorado scored on their first shot 18 seconds into the game. The Eagles took the first six shots of the game before the Grizzlies countered with 17 of the next 21.
Michael Pelech's team leading 13th goal of the year tied the game at one with 5:21 left in the first period as Alex Krushelnyski fed him from behind the net after Gentry Zollars blasted a shot off of the back wall.
The Grizzlies took their first lead of the night 3:50 into the second period as Danick Paquette went under the bar in transition from Jacob Johnston and Brent Gwidt for his first goal of the year.
Utah made it 3-1 4:47 later as Alex Krushelnyski broke in uncontested for his fourth goal of the year, including his third against the Eagles.
Colorado came back with two in the third to tie the game at three before the Grizzlies answered 16 seconds later on Johnnie Searfoss' first pro goal as he took a feed from Mike Colavecchia on a two-on-one. Johnston registered his second assist of the game on the play.
"It felt great, especially getting the game winner, it was a big win for us; now we can go into Christmas with a positive attitude," said Searfoss.
"It was huge for those guys to respond and be veterans out there," said Branham. "Great job by Johnnie putting the puck in the net, that was a huge play."
Ducks prospect Igor Bobkov stopped 18 of 21 to earn his second win of the year for the Grizzlies.
