Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light, fell in their final meeting of the year with the Elmira Jackals by a score of 4-1 inside the Ford Center. Elmira's Mitch Holmberg netted his first professional hat trick in his Jackals debut to extend the IceMen's (8-11-2-1, 19 points) losing streak to five games.

The Jackals picked up the only goal of the first period. Justin Daniels found Holmberg by himself in front of the net. Holmberg tucked the puck underneath the cross bar to give the Jackals a 1-0 lead after one.

Evansville retaliated early in the second period. Troy Rutkowski zipped a pass to Colin Murray, who weaved through defenders and beat Sam Marotta with a backhander to tie the game at one. Brandon Martell picked up his first point in Evansville on Murray's first goal with the IceMen. The goal was Murray's third overall in his rookie season.

Midway through the second the Jackals answered. Holmberg put in his second of the night on a feed from Daniels to give the Jackals the lead again heading into the second intermission.

Holmberg completed the hat trick just over five minutes into the third period. The rookie deflected in a shot from Zach Tolkinen to earn his first professional hat trick and push the Jackal lead to two goals.

The Jackals tacked on an insurance tally. On a breakaway, Daniels and Holmberg slid the puck to Brodie Reid on an odd man rush. Reid slapped the puck past Chris Driedger as he fell to the ice to clinch a 4-1 win for Elmira.

Holmberg finished the night with four points as the Jackals improved to 14-9-0-3, 31 points on the season. The IceMen will remain in sixth place in North Division with their loss.

Donnie Harris, Matt Lowry, Jim McKenzie and Kevin Harvey all dropped the gloves in various fights throughout the game. Evansville finishes the season 1-4-1-0 against Elmira in a rivalry that produced nine total fights this season.
