Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (13-9-1-3), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, fell to the Idaho Steelheads (16-8-1-1) by a 6-1 score in front of a crowd of 5,427 on Wednesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
Idaho jumped out to an early lead just 55 seconds into the match, as Colton Beck stole the puck in the neutral zone, and then fed it along to Devin DiDiomete, who beat Jussi Olkinuora to the glove side.
Only moments later, Beck led the charge for the Steelheads again as he dropped the puck into the slot from the right side and Gaelan Patterson buried the puck beneath Olkinuora's pads at 1:13. Eamonn McDermott earned the secondary assist.
Ontario got on the board at 8:51, when Rocco Carzo carried the puck into the offensive zone and fired a shot that beat Olivier Roy low to his glove side. Ryan Parent and Nolan Julseth-White picked up the assists on Carzo's goal.
The Steelheads re-established their two-goal lead at 13:29 when James Livingston snapped a shot high that beat Olkinuora off a feed from Troy Vance.
The second period went scoreless for both teams, although the Reign outshot Idaho by a 13-6 margin in the middle frame.
The Steelheads got another early goal in the third period after Brett Robinson banged in Wade MacLeod's rebound at 0:38, and Idaho capped its scoring with goals by Jason Bast at 1:49 and MacLeod at 4:55.
Olkinuora took the defeat with 18 saves; Roy earned the win with 28 stops.
