Brampton Beast News Release
MOLINE, IL- What has previously been a strong point of the Brampton Beast's game, their penalty kill, proved instead to be the bearer of bad news as the Beast allowed three powerplay goals en route to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Quad City Mallards on Wednesday. The loss marks the 5th in a row for the Beast, who were unable to complete the comeback in the third period despite cutting the lead to just two with 20 minutes to play.
Things started off shaky for the visiting team, taking a penalty just two minutes into the game and allowing a goal to be scored on that man-advantage. Logan Nelson beat Trevor Cann with a wrist shot and put the Mallards on the board in the early stages, and the home team wasn't done there, adding a 5-on-3 powerplay marker and an even strength tally before the first intermission.
Needless to say, the first period was one the Beast would very much like to forget. The team did a pretty solid job of changing that up in the second, looking much better in their own defensive zone, but only came away with one goal to show for their efforts as Quad City netminder, Parker Milner, stood tall. Mathew Maione blasted a one-timer into the top shelf off of an Andy Bathgate pass to cut the lead to 3-1 and give Brampton hope heading into the third, with Rob Ricci collecting the secondary assist on the play.
The third period started out well for the Beast, who managed to kill off an early powerplay and nearly pull within a goal on more than one occasion. However, the Beast would once again run into penalty troubles as the Mallards put away their forth goal midway through the frame to seal the 4-1 victory.
The Beast made a last ditch effort to tie the game in the dying moments, pulling Trevor Cann with just under three minutes to play while on the powerplay to give themselves a six-on-four situation, but were unable to solve Milner late. The Beast now travel to Missouri to take on the Mavericks this Friday, December 19 at 8:05 PM EST. Fans can tune into the action on ECHL.TV or listen live at www.4cornersradio.ca
