Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON - The Brampton Beast announced today the acquisition of 24-year-old defenseman Zach Sternberg from the Evansville Icemen in exchange for future considerations.

Sternberg joins the Beast after spending 11 games this season with the Evansville Icemen of the ECHL. The 6'0", 190-pound native of Toronto, Ontario will be making his Canadian pro hockey debut after a four-year career south of the border with Lake Superior State University (NCAA D1).

During his time in college, Sternberg collected 41 points (11 goals and 30 assists) in 121 regular season games to go along with 68 penalty minutes. In his junior season, Sternberg led Lake Superior State University in overall defenseman scoring, and was 8th in the league in that category.

Last summer, the young defenseman totalled six assists for Team Canada at the 2013 Maccabiah Games held in Israel, and was named to Jewish Sports Review's Division I College Hockey All-America Team. Prior to beginning his collegiate hockey career in the United States, Sternberg scored four goals and 34 points in 61 games with the Nepean Raiders of the Canadian Junior Hockey League in 2009-10.

The newest addition to the Brampton squad is expected to make his Beast debut this Friday, December 19 when the Beast take on the Missouri Mallards at 8:05 PM EST. Catch the game live on ECHL.tv or listen free at 4cornersradio.ca.
