Colorado Eagles News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The Colorado Eagles (14-9-0-0) came up short against the Utah Grizzlies (11-11-2-0), on Wednesday night at Maverik Center.
Eagles forward Jonathan Parker started the scoring just 18 seconds into the game, streaking down the right side, firing a shot under Grizzlies goalie Igor Babkov's leg pad to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Grizzlies forward Mike Pelech responded 15:21 into the first by firing the puck past Eagles goaltender Doug Carr who couldn't recover from a fake on the opposite post to tie the score, 1-1.
Grizzlies forward Danick Paquette came streaking across the middle and beat Carr high to give Utah a 2-1 lead. Utah forward Alex Krushelnyski maneuvered around Eagles defenseman Brett Kulak before scoring with one hand on the stick, sneaking the puck past Carr's left leg pad.
Colorado forward Brock Nixon fired a shot from the top of the left circle to pull the Eagles within one with 12:10 remaining in the contest. Nixon struck again with 5:39 remaining in the game after corralling a stretch pass and going to the backhand top shelf to tie the game at 3, netting his ninth goal in five games. Sixteen seconds later, Utah forward Johnnie Searfoss scored his first professional goal on a one-timer after a pass crossing Carr's crease.
A late Eagles rally yielded two hit posts, but no goals with Carr on the bench for the sixth skater, as the Eagles fell in Utah, 4-3.
