Utah Grizzlies News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH-The Utah Grizzlies powered their way to their first home win in regulation. After two periods that mirrored yesterday's game against Chicago the Wolves looked like they were ready to bite down on the Grizzlies and steal the game but the Grizzlies showed their offensive prowess. Just after the half way point of the third period the Grizzlies came roaring back from a one goal deficit to score two goals 3:03 apart to seal the victory.
Similar to last nights outing with the Chicago the Grizzlies were first on the board. Randall Gelech scored his 3rd goal of the year on a power play that came as a result of a penalty on Wolves net minder Michael Garnett for clearing the puck out of play. Terry Virtue and Fredrik Sjostrom were credited with assists on the goal. Chicago's Kyle Rossiter tied the game late in the period with his first goal of the season.
Utah's Jarrod Skalde would return the favor late in the second period with that frame's only goal, his first since re-joining the team and his second overall on the season. Utah would take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission for the second straight night.
In the third, Ben Simon and Stephen Baby scored back-to-back goals for the Wolves just 1:09 apart in the first two minutes of the period to gain the first lead of the night for Chicago. It would stay that way until past the midway point of the frame when Gelech would score his second goal of the night tying the game with seven minutes remaining. Utah's Skalde would force a turnover in the offensive zone just over three minutes later and Sjostrom would beat Garnett above the left shoulder for the game winner.
Sjostrom finished the game with a goal and two assist and Gelech notched his first multi-goal game of his professional career. Captain Rick Berry threw in a couple of helpers contributing to the cause.
David LeNeveu made 26 saves earning the victory for Utah who outshot the Wolves 41-29 in the game. The 41 shots for Utah was the most this season in a single game.
The Grizzlies will travel to Cleveland to take on the Barons on Friday night with face-off scheduled for 5:00 PM (mt).
